The Primary School Summer Camp will be led by The Walker Primary School faculty and staff! This camp will be located in the Primary School on Damar Road. All rising Early Learners - Kindergarteners (3 yr. olds-kindergarten) may enroll and non-Walker students are welcome to attend. All children must be potty trained prior to attending camp. Families will need to provide a morning snack, a lunch, and an afternoon snack for your camper. Rest time will be provided for our rising Early Learners and those who need it. Register Today June 2-6 The Summer Explorers Day Camp offers a week filled with fun and adventures both on and off campus. Some off-campus adventures include bowling, swimming, putt-putt, a farm visit, jump houses, and much more. Led by Lower School teachers and trained staff, campers will be guided through a wide range of enrichment opportunities and timeless traditional camp fun and games. Our campers will look forward to weekly field trips, outdoor adventures, arts & crafts, team-building games, and a host of other seasonal activities. Off-campus trips may be altered or canceled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. We look forward to welcoming your child to our very special group of Summer Explorers! New Avenues Summer Academic Voyages |
June 2-27 Summer Academic Voyages: Presented by the New Avenues Dyslexia Program (four-week option is open to the community and Walker students) Camp runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to Noon. Morning care and afternoon camp options are available for busy parents. Rising first through fifth grade (Spots for 6 students) Summer Academic Voyages Elementary-aged learners will embark on an academic adventure to hone their skills and discover new talents. Guided by Orton-Gillingham-trained teachers, learners receive direct, systematic, multi-sensory, and prescriptive instruction in reading, math, and language formulation (oral and written).
This program nurtures participants by sharpening their academic skills, building self-confidence, and preparing them for success. Campers will develop social language and make new friends through classroom and playground interactions. Who Should Enroll: Summer Academic Voyages is designed to provide specialized instruction for students with dyslexia and/or those struggling to read. This camp provides an exciting and fun space for both girls and boys to develop their soccer skills under the guidance of our varsity coaches and players. All skill levels are welcome! Campers will work on basic footwork skills through drills and games! They will also develop an understanding of the fundamentals and general strategy of the game. The Brickhouse Basketball Camp offers fundamentals to junior Wolverines. This camp is for rising 5th - 8th graders who are interested in developing their individual softball skills. Emphasis will be placed on fundamental skills including throwing, catching, pitching, hitting/bunting and position work. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged. Campers should come prepared with a softball glove, athletic shoes (cleats), water bottle and sunscreen. June 9-13 - Let's Start a Podcast!, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. (Grades 4-8) |
Students will explore great podcasts that already exist to help us learn more about the genre. Then campers will create their own podcast episodes, incorporating their own interests and ideas. They will write a script or create a storyboard that might include interviews, an engaging topic, learning how to edit audio, and the addition of music and sound effects. We will all share our episodes on a Summer Camp Podcast on Youtube and Spotify that will be shared at the end of camp! Camp Leader: Samantha Walker |
June 9-13, Dollhouse Camp, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. (Grades 1-5) |
Come join us as we decorate a fully wooden constructed Dollhouse. They will turn it into a beach house. Campers will paint, design the inside, craft shells for the outside, cut, glue, and construct items to put in their dollhouse. At the end of the week, they will receive wooden furniture to move into the house along with the wooden figures that they have painted during the week. June 9-13 - Fishing at the Farm, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. (Grades 4-8) |
Students will load up at Walker and take a 10-minute bus ride to a local 50-acre farm adjacent to Kennesaw National Park. While there, we will fish for bass and bream in the two ponds, hike a bit, and enjoy being unplugged outside. No experience is necessary and all bait is provided! Flyfisher folk welcome, as well. We will go over the basics (including safety) and kids will be spending the entire time outdoors. Please bring rods, a water bottle, snacks, and sunscreen. July 14-18 - Mindfulness camp, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. (Grades 3-5) |
Participants in the mindfulness camp will join Lower School counselor Kristin Moffett for a week of learning about different calming techniques to help reset the mind and body. The camp will be full of art, music, games, and nature and will even engage all the senses at some point. Your camper will come home with a set of mindfulness strategies to use whenever they need a "pause" in life. July 14-18 - ZOO Atlanta, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. (Grades 3-6) |
Zoo Atlanta participates in worldwide conservation efforts and houses some of the most important animals for the preservation of global biodiversity. In this camp, participants will “adopt” 2-3 animals currently living at the zoo. We will explore their native habitat and ecosystem and try to answer the question of why these animals are so important to biodiversity on the planet. Activities include art and science projects that help us understand why each animal is special. This camp concludes with an optional overnight at Zoo Atlanta on the Friday that ends the camp. Geared towards Middle School and Upper School students that are involved in band, but not limited to those students, this camp is meant to go through fundamentals of drumming, covering technical fundamentals as well as exercises to reinforce and develop those technical fundamentals. These ideas include, but are not limited to, proper body posture, how to hold the sticks/mallets correctly, various types of strokes and rudiments, and exercises designed to reinforce and develop these technical fundamentals and skills. Students will explore great podcasts that already exist to help us learn more about the genre. Then campers will create their own podcast episodes, incorporating their own interests and ideas. They will write a script or create a storyboard that might include interviews, an engaging topic, learning how to edit audio, and the addition of music and sound effects. June 9-13 - Fishing at the Farm, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. (Grades 4-8) |
Students will load up at Walker and take a 10-minute bus ride to a local 50-acre farm adjacent to Kennesaw National Park. While there, we will fish for bass and bream in the two ponds, hike a bit, and enjoy being unplugged outside. No experience is necessary and all bait is provided! Flyfisher folk welcome, as well. We will go over the basics (including safety) and kids will be spending the entire time outdoors. Please bring rods, a water bottle, snacks, and sunscreen. Interested in joining the cross country team or just enjoy running? Come spend the mornings with the Walker Middle School Cross Country coaches as they prepare and train runners for the upcoming season. Campers will run drills, do training runs, play endurance games and run and hike some of the trails in our local area. Over the course of five days, we will watch movie adaptations of books we've read and discuss the differences between them. Crazy for Cards is a week-long, half-day camp during which the kids will learn how to play several classic card games - Hearts, Rummy, Poker, etc. - as well as some that they may have never heard of before. No experience necessary! Of course, we'll learn the rules and such for each game, but we'll also talk about how and why these games work the way they do. By the end of the week, campers will know enough about these games to share them with their friends and family AND to be able to beat them, too (at least at first)! The goal is for the kids to gain a new level of understanding and appreciation for the games they already know, and to generate new excitement for the games they're playing for the first time! Zoo Atlanta participates in worldwide conservation efforts and houses some of the most important animals for the preservation of global biodiversity. In this camp, participants will “adopt” 2-3 animals currently living at the zoo. We will explore their native habitat and ecosystem and try to answer the question of why these animals are so important to biodiversity on the planet. Activities include art and science projects that help us understand why each animal is special. This camp concludes with an optional overnight at Zoo Atlanta on the Friday that ends the camp. REFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY |
The Walker School reserves the right to cancel any portion of a summer program in case of unforeseen circumstances. Refunds will be issued. No refunds will be given for missed days/hours during a session period. To meet planning needs, after May 1, no refunds will be given for withdrawals from a camp or workshop unless there are documented extenuating circumstances. However, if your plans change, you may transfer your student from one camp to another up to two weeks prior to the first day of camp, based on availability. All requests for withdrawals and transfers must be made in writing. |
